Pick any sports reference you like — the ninth inning, 10th frame, fourth quarter, fourth-and-long — but I have an unhealthy tendency to wait until these moments arise to myself rise to the occasion.
Give me, say, 72 hours to do big, daunting task. The first couple of those hours I’ll make some semblance of a plan … and usually a decent one. Then I’ll wander off for the next 50 hours as if the plan was, in itself, completing the project. Then I’ll spend 8-10 hours worrying about how I haven’t done much and I need to get started. Finally, at the last possible moment, I’ll spring into action with great urgency and complete the project right under the wire.
