Lady Yellowjackets learning in summer

Basketball players like Imane Montgomery and Blair Schaefer do not come around every day, so when they graduate and leave a program it certainly creates a void on the court.
“We are regrouping our guard positions after losing Blair and Imane to graduation,” Starkville girls coach Kristie Williams said. “We have big shoes to fill there, but we have some younger players willing to step up and even some that played last year that didn’t have to step up as much. They are starting to fill in those roles.”
Much of the work to fill holes and spots on the roster has taken place during the summer. In particular, the Lady Jackets spent Wednesdays during the month of June taking part in Columbus High’s summer league program. Overall the team played 13 games and ended the short season with a 9-4 record.
