For several years, Mississippi State University student Evan Alvarez was a proud Republican.

On his Facebook, he can be seen shaking hands with Republican Gov. Phil Bryant, beaming. While attending MSU, he joined College Republicans and ascended to chairman of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans in March. And he supported U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran’s re-election campaign on social media. But on Monday, on Twitter, all of that changed:

“Effective today, I will no longer be chairman or even a member of (MFCR),” Alvarez tweeted. “I cannot stand by people who don’t follow rules.”
