More than two months after the city issued a check for more than $400,000 to Starkville School District, at least one Starkville alderman wants the money returned.
City Clerk Lesa Hardin located surplus funds from an old SSD bond in April, and city administration issued the school district a check for that money, totaling $474,081.63, on April 27. The surplus funds came from a 20-year bond SSD issued in 1986 for renovations at the Greensboro Center, according to district officials, a bond the school retired in 2006.
