SMITH COLUMN: Coach Pitch State will keep Starkville busy on the Fourth

July 1, 2014

Smith

It's going to be a busy Fourth of July weekend on the baseball fields of McKee Park.
When it comes to celebrating the nation's birthday, it only seems fitting to be following teams like National and American. Starkville has one of each during the Dizzy Dean Coach Pitch 7-year-old South State Tournament that starts Friday.
Dizzy Dean All-Star Tournaments are heating up all across the area over the next couple of weeks and Starkville has the opportunity to host two of the events.
Along with the Coach-Pitch 7 State this week, Starkville will also have the 12-year-old North State Tournament on July 11.
Action is already underway for Starkville All-Star squads as the 9-year-olds began play at State with an early 9 a.m. game against Fulton today in Batesville.
