A new champion stands at the top in the 12-year old United States Specialty Sports Association baseball bracket in the state and that team knows a thing or two about this area as six of the kids hail from Starkville while four call the East Webster area home.
This past weekend the Mississippi Sox traveled north to Tupelo where after seven games, the team found itself as 12-year old state champions.
"The biggest thing about these guys is they never quit," coach Ed Silver said. "We played one of the top teams in the state in the fourth game and got down two runs. They brought in a new pitcher to face the top of our order and our guys said we are going to do this. We ended up coming back to win."
