It's becoming less and less of a surprise that the scores of the College World Series are very close.
When Tupelo native John Gatlin singled to give the Ole Miss Rebels a 2-1 victory over Texas Tech on Tuesday, it was just another in a long line of close and competitive games in Omaha, Neb., especially when it involves schools from Mississippi.
The Rebels bounced back from a loss by the same score to No. 3 national seed Virginia.
In their run to the CWS National Championship Series last season, the Mississippi State Bulldogs won a pair of 5-4 games against Oregon State and Indiana that really put them in a great position.
MSU enjoyed a somewhat comfortable 4-1 victory over Oregon State to advance to the finals. Hunter Renfroe hit a three-run home run, while Kendall Graveman pitched a solid outing.
