Some called it from the beginning while others kept holding out until the very end so as not to jinx anything.
Still It did not matter.
When the conclusion was made, the success story that was East Webster softball team rolled its way to a 30-2 record capped off by its second state championship in as many years. One of those not wanting to say anything because he was afraid it might end, but still knowing his athletes were capable of an impressive season was Starkville Daily News’ Coach of the Year Lee Berryhill.
It would be easy to express how great of a coach Berryhill is and how without his guidance, the Lady Wolverines might not be where they are today, but that is not what Berryhill would want. Instead the coach takes every chance he gets to give the credit to his players because he knows without their action on the field, none of it would be possible.
