Robbie Nell Penton Thomas

   Robbie Nell Penton Thomas, 78, of Huntsville, AL, formerly a resident of Starkville, MS, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2014.  She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Garnett  J. Thomas.  
   Mrs. Thomas was born in Hissop, AL on October 9, 1935, to Thomas Archibald Penton and Mary Maribel Porter Penton.  She was the youngest of 4 children.  She attended schools in Coosa County, AL and graduated from Rockford High School.  Her family attended the Concorde United Methodist Church. As an adult, Mrs. Thomas lived in Starkville, MS for 34 years.  She was a member and faithfully attended the First United Methodist Church, the Inquirers Sunday school class, and was active in a church Circle group.  She was also active in the Starkville Garden Club and Rotary Ann International.  She and Garnett strongly supported their church, Habitat for Humanity and United Way.  They developed many true friendships through the years and willingly helped others with their time, talents and gifts.  
   Surviving Mrs. Thomas are her children, Vernon C. Bice Jr. (Beth) of Huntsville, AL, Mike Bice (Lisa) of Birmingham, AL, and Gena Bice Black (William) of Huntsville, AL, her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Clarence Abernathy of Alexander City, AL, and sister-in-law, Maxine Penton of Collinsville, MS.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Libby Bice Diaz, Cappy and Tabitha Bice of Huntsville, AL, Michael and Caroline Bice of Birmingham, AL, and Audrey Black of Huntsville, AL.   She also has several nieces and nephews.  
   Mrs. Thomas will forever be remembered by her children as a mother who taught by example love, loyalty, compassion and perserverance.  She was a wonderful mother who was patient, kind, and understanding.  She faced difficult trials in life with strength and grace.  She is now in her heavenly home and free from her earthly struggles.  Praise be to God! 
   Mrs. Thomas' family would like to thank Whitesburg Gardens Nursing Home and Rehabilitation and Hospice of North AL for their excellent care of her.   They would also like to thank Dr. Zaheer Khan for his excellent knowledge of Alzheimers disease and his kind and compassionate care of her while she lived in Huntsville, AL.  
    Services for Mrs. Thomas are Thurs., May 22.  Visitation is at First United Methodist Church 10:00 am and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.  Burial will be at Memorial Garden Park.  In her memory, you may make a tax deductible donation to the Alzheimers Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090-6011 (alz.org) or a charity of your choice.
