WEST POINT – The Old Waverly Golf Club is excited about a new opportunity.
When the U.S. Women's Open came to Old Waverly and West Point in 1999, it brought a great amount of attention to the Golden Triangle and the state of Mississippi.
It is the hope that the same thing can happen this year when Old Waverly hosts the 2014 ISPS Handa Cup, an international tournament featuring the Legends of the LPGA. The event will take place Sept. 25-28.
Tournament officials and Old Waverly staff held a press conference on Thursday to discuss the event in detail.
"I hope that we can bring the people, have a crowd here and get the exposure we need for this event," Old Waverly founder George Bryan said. "We're excited about it, not because of the Women's Open back in '99, but what it can mean for this September and the whole area. It's really exciting. You've got people from all over the world that are coming in here to see this event."
