Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell wanted a challenge for his team at the end of spring practice.
It comes in the form of the Brandon Bulldogs.
The Yellowjackets and Bulldogs meet in the second half of a four-team spring jamboree today at Davis Wade Stadium on the campus of Mississippi State.
"We'll get all we want and then some for sure," Mitchell said. "Coach (Brad) Peterson has done a fantastic job and they've got an elite quarterback as well and a defensive lineman that is being recruited nationally.
"It's the kind of spring game we need to be involved with to see where our program is and we need to be tested by the best. I think Brad and I take the same approach that we want to see kids in certain situations. The final score is not make or break right now. We want to put kids in situations, see what they do and see how they react under the lights."
West Point and Meridian will begin the action with a junior varsity scrimmage at 4 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
Starkville and Brandon take the field at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Admission to the jamboree is $7 and only the gates on the home side of Davis Wade Stadium will be open.
