Kate Mattox has already admitted that she is nervous headed into the Class 6A State championship track meet on Saturday in Pearl.
As Mattox goes for yet another distance state championship in her young career at Starkville High School, the freshman will have a calming force standing not too far away from her. It will be in the form of older sister Walker.
The Mattox sisters have qualified for the state meet in both the 3200 and 1600 meter runs after their performance throughout the season and at North State.
Kate loves sharing the experience on the track with Walker.
"It's really fun," Kate said. "We can calm each other down. Walker has really picked it up this season. Her times have really picked up and it's really fun to watch and being a part of that with her. We've been able to train a lot more this season. Normally we don't get to do that, but we've been doing the long events together."
