Ralesheia Gee began her track and field journey in the high jump, but she quickly found a new passion a little closer to the ground.
“I was already doing high jump, but one day I just asked coach (Steve) Griffin if I could try the long jump,” Gee said. “Turns out I was pretty good at it. Now I love the adrenaline rush when I actually jump.”
The sophomore was not kidding about her talent. She finished second in Class 5A State championship competition last year as a freshman. Thus far in her sophomore season, she has jumped 17-8.50 and is shooting for 18-9 as she prepares for this weekend’s Class 6A State championship meet.
Gee sees the higher class making a difference.
“I know I have competition, but I like competition,” Gee said. “I have just been working hard since I know anybody can win this year.”
