The Starkville Academy tennis program saw a strong group of seniors take the court this season.
On Wednesday, the Volunteers played their final home match of the season and it was the final time for seven seniors to see action in Starkville.
Those taking part in senior day activities for SA were Jamison McKee, Jake Goodwin, Jack Burton, Bell Hester, Shelby Pellum, Shelby Marsh and Maril Jackson.
“Our seniors have been very instrumental in our tennis team,” Volunteers coach Lynn Moorehead said. “Most of them have played with us since 7th grade so it’s been a great experience for me to work with them and for them to be a part of the team. They were a lot of fun and they’ve put in some hard work. It is going to be difficult losing seven players all at once. We have a lot of holes to fill.”
The departing seniors and their teammates finished out the regular season by facing Golden Triangle rival Heritage Academy and in the end, it was the Patriots getting the 7-2 victory.
“We are just young as far as tennis goes,” Moorehead said. “Heritage has a lot of experience with tennis – a lot more than we do. We played them well. We played them hard. Nobody gave up. Everybody was competitive so I feel good about that.”
