SMITH COLUMN: Bolt surface creates feel of real grass

Three coaches, an athletic director and a band director sat around a table in the conference room at Starkville High School Tuesday morning with smiles on their faces.
While considering what the new turf and track surface being installed at Yellowjacket Stadium means to the athletic program, they have a reason to be excited about what's coming.
SHS athletic director Stan Miller, football coach Jamie Mitchell, track coach Caroline Woomer and soccer coach Anna Albritton all explained how the new surface was going to benefit sports, while band director Shawn Sullivan commented on why it helps his unit perform better also.
