Mississippi State had an outside shot to win the Southeastern Conference Championship a year ago after the second round.
The Bulldogs shot a 303 in the third round of the event to find themselves 12 shots behind leader Alabama in second place.
The deficit was going to be hard to overcome, and the Bulldogs stumbled in the third round and finished in a tie for fifth place.
This year MSU head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm has a team that is one year older and more experienced.
"I feel like we're in a much better place," Brown-Lemm said. "We've got the seasoning of one year and two more wins under our belt, so I think it all helps and goes to the ultimate goal of winning a championship."Â
