SMITH COLUMN: MSU kept hope, showed grit to claim series

April 16, 2014

Smith

Anyone who attended Friday night's series-opening game between Mississippi State and Alabama could see that the Bulldogs were going to put up quite a fight against the second-ranked Crimson Tide.
After losing the first game 5-1, MSU came back to defeat Alabama 4-2 on Saturday and 4-3 on Sunday to win the series.
The Bulldogs celebrated the feat by taking a little dip in Chadwick Lake, which was the idea of assistant coach Beth Mullins.
It was certainly quite an accomplishment for MSU, which honestly was having a tough time consistently finding victories in the Southeastern Conference. It's such a competitive softball league, as it is in most sports. Any success achieved in the SEC has to be considered a great thing.
