Starkville's Self signs with Lions

After being sidelined by injury, Starkville High School's Dontavius Self spent the majority of his junior season watching basketball from the bench.
Many athletes would have let this setback get them down, but not Self, who says he spent his year off focused on “getting stronger, more aggressive and becoming a team leader” of the Yellowjackets.
“The biggest thing from last year to this year is he has matured a lot,” SHS coach Greg Carter said. “He had the skills last year, but he got hurt. This year he grew up and learned how to handle situations on the court.”
