Lady Cougars use big inning for softball win
The Starkville Christian School Lady Cougars had a 14-run second inning and went on to defeat the Immanuel Christian Lady Rams 18-3 in five innings Thursday afternoon at the Starkville Sportsplex.
It was the second win in as many games for the Lady Cougars.
After Immanuel jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, SCS broke loose with the 14-run second frame. Evey Lowimore highlighted the scoring burst with a hit that produced four runs as she advanced all of the way around the bases to cross the plate herself.
The Lady Cougars added four more runs in the fourth inning and held the Lady Rams in the fifth to bring the mercy rule into play.
Candace Bolden scored three runs for SCS, while Lowimore, April Burkis, Heather Koehn, Jill Jackson, Kayla Williamson, and Jazlyn Douglas all scored two runs each.
The junior varsity game also went in the favor of the Lady Cougars 6-1. Oakland Newell drove in a pair of runs with a triple.
