It's the dream of most assistant coaches to one day become a head coach.
That was the case with Preston Leathers.
The Starkville High School offensive coordinator decided to accept a position to become the head coach at Tishomingo County High School on Monday.
Leathers came to the Yellowjackets when Jamie Mitchell became the head coach in 2010. The two men have coached together for 10 years.
"He's meant more to me than people will ever know," Mitchell said. "He's a guy who has been with me for 10 years and I've known him from I guess the time he was born. With both of us being from Pontotoc, I saw him grow up and he's been a huge part of our programs for the last 10 years. It's certainly a monumental loss for us."
