Jackets lose region tennis match against Madison Central

April 2, 2014

Going into this season coach Rob Fyke knew his tennis team was in for a challenge with its new 6A competitors.
On Tuesday afternoon, Starkville faced the first of those teams as they dropped a 6-1 contest to visiting Madison Central.
“We knew they were going to be tough,” Fyke said. “We have been playing Oxford in the state playoffs over the last few years so we sort of compared it to that and said get ready for a match like that because they are at that level.
"I asked the kids to play without any fear and not to show intimidation. They succeeded in that. Unfortunately the numbers in the games didn’t go in our favor, but it was good preparation for our next match and also good preparation for the individual district tournament.”
