SMITH COLUMN: WNIT game caps the day for Bulldogs

March 30, 2014

Smith

This could end up being a Super Sunday for Mississippi State athletics.
Not only does baseball and softball complete series today in Starkville, but the women's basketball team is hosting a quarterfinal matchup in the Women's National Invitational Tournament at Humphrey Coliseum. The game against South Florida tips at 5 p.m.
Coach Vic Schaefer's Bulldogs would reach the semifinals of the event with a victory over the Bulls. That would be the deepest run in any tournament for the State women.
The success the Bulldogs have experienced so far in the WNIT is a major feather in the cap of the program and a tremendous springboard into the future.
Now that MSU has reached the WNIT and played well in it, the level of expectation has increased also.
The Bulldogs have already set their sights on making the NCAA Tournament next.
