Miss. sheriffs getting raises

March 25, 2014

Mississippi’s sheriffs will be getting a pay raise thanks to new legislation that Gov. Phil Bryant signed into law Friday.

The legislation began as House Bill 1409 and lays out a new pay scale for sheriffs that will go into effect July 1. Under the new legislation, as in the old, sheriff pay will vary based on county population as tallied in the most recent federal decennial census. Oktibbeha County had 47,671 residents in 2012, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
