Areas thrive, struggle in race for fiber

March 25, 2014

Starkville has seen growing success in qualifying residents in certain neighborhoods for C Spire’s ultra high-speed Internet service, with Mayor Parker Wiseman’s support for the project ringing loud and clear all along the way.

Since C Spire announced Starkville last fall as one of nine finalist cities in Mississippi eligible to receive the company’s fiber services to the home — which includes cable television, 1 gigabit per-second Internet and landline telephone — enough residents have preregistered in two of the city’s 10 “Fiberhoods” to qualify them for construction, and two others are fast approaching their preregistration quotas.
