Early matches give SHS prep for region schedule

March 22, 2014

The tennis season hasn't gotten off to the start that coach Rob Fyke and the Starkville Yellowjackets wanted.
Fyke is not worried with veterans like Emily Turner, Hannah Laird, Richard Hill and Will Irvin on the team.
Starkville has a record of 1-2 record after meeting three tough teams and despite that losing mark, Fyke believes his squad will be well-tested for the region schedule to come.
"This is the first time we've had a losing record in the season," Fyke said on Friday. "The kids aren't real happy about that, but we still have a good team. I think we have as good as team or better than we've had in the past. We will rebound and still have our district matches to play. We still have a good chance to compete on the district level and send a lot of kids to the state tournament."
