Basketball is life for Blair Schaefer.
Since a very early age, the Starkville Lady Yellowjacket has had a basketball in her hand and has been working to improve her game. The work has paid off resulting in Schaefer being selected the Starkville Daily News Area Player of the Year.
“When I was 6 or 7, I played upward,” Schaefer said. “Even then, I was knowledgeable about the game because of my dad, then I started playing competitively when I was in the 7th grade and that was my time to really see what it was like. As I got older, I had to put a lot of emphasis on summer ball because of how important it was to my development. My dad was telling me when I was a senior, I was going to have to showcase all I had to offer so when I was growing up, I really put emphasis on getting better and learning skills. It was just my life.”
Schaefer’s hard work paid off and this fall the senior will enroll at Mississippi State where she will join her father Vic Schaefer’s Bulldog basketball team. When she finally gets the opportunity to wear an MSU uniform, Schaefer is looking forward to not just being a member of the team, but to coming in and making an “impact.”
