Preston Brown has only gotten better with each start on the mound.
The Mississippi State redshirt sophomore right hander proved that again Tuesday night.
The Germantown, Tenn., native pitched eight solid innings as No. 23 Mississippi State cruised to a 3-0 victory over Southern Illinois at Dudy Noble Field.
"Preston was really impressive," MSU head coach John Cohen said. "We came into this really wanting a ton of ground balls and that's what he gave us."
It is the third-consecutive shutout at home for the Bulldog pitching staff, first time since 1982. Brown has been involved in two of those.Â
He pitched four scoreless innings against South Alabama on March 5 in a 3-0 victory for MSU.Â
Brown took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He retired the first two batters, and after striking out Ryan Rosthenhausler for the second out, Brown was headed to the dugout.
