Like father like son might be one of the best mantras to describe Brad and Cade Vickers.
In college, Brad was a NSISC All-Conference swimmer and diver at Delta State where he won a conference championship in the 200-Butterfly and was chosen a three-time NCAA All-American.
Now it is Cade’s turn.
Swimming since he was 6-years-old, the younger Vickers recently competed with the Mississippi Shockwave at the Mississippi Swimming Short Course State championships at the Tupelo Aquatic Facility. In total, Cade competed in seven events and in each one, he claimed the top prize.
“He won a couple state titles when he was in the 10 and under age bracket,” Brad said. “This was by far his best meet.”
Cade’s events in the 11- and 12-year-old bracket included both the 50- and 100-yard breast strokes where he swam a victorious 31.97 and 1:11.71 respectively. After that, the young swimmer swam 1:02.64 in the 100-yard fly, 2:18.52 in the 200-yard IM, 1:03.47 in the 100-yard individual medley as well as posting a time of 56.53 in the 100-yard free and coming in at 28.12 in the 50-yard fly.
"Cade has been working extremely hard in the pool and he wanted it," Shockwave head swim coach Allison Conn said. "He was hungry for the wins."
