FULTON â€“ Former Starkville High School player Tory Rice and former West Oktibbeha player Dontavious "Tay" Crawford have made their mark at the next level.
After leaving behind their high school teams, Rice and Crawford joined forces for the Itawamba Community College Indians, where both have continued their top-notch level of competition and will participate in today's first round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
Averaging 10 points a game, Rice ranks third on the team in scoring while shooting just over 77 percent from the line, but that is not where the sophomore makes his mark. Instead Rice is known for his team leading average of 8.2 rebounds a game, which is something he has excelled at since his days with the Yellowjackets.
â€śHe was a hard worker,â€ť Starkville High coach Greg Carter said. â€śScoring wasnâ€™t what motivated him. It was rebounding. He really went hard after the boards. He played hard all the time and played with a lot of energy. He had a tremendous work ethic which is something that it doesnâ€™t matter where you go, you can take that with you.â€ť
