Local group looking for ways to honor ‘Legend’ of Starkville

Friends of the late Garcia Gerald Berry, Jr. have organized to honor the Starkville legend with a memorial celebration and fundraising event, with proceeds to be split between creating a tribute to Gerald in the Cotton District and benefiting the homeless in Starkville.

Garcia Gerald Berry, Jr., 66, died Jan. 1, 2014 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. A native of Lyon, Miss., Berry was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was known as “The Legend” in Starkville where he practiced photography and supported local musicians.
