The Starkville High School boys basketball team has come a long way this season.
Under the leadership of head coach Greg Carter, the Yellowjackets have made the final four of Class 6A North Tournament and get a shot at getting to Jackson for the state tournament.
SHS is not only one of four teams left standing in the North, but it hosts the Class 6A North Tournament this weekend.
“It means a lot for this team because of where we have come from,” Carter said. "Coming from last year when we won nine games (to) this year (where) we have already won 24. It is not the number of games we win as a team. Rather it is about playing for an opportunity to get to the state tournament. That has been our goal since day one.
"When the season started, a lot of people didn't think we would have a chance to play for this, but because of the work the kids have put in, we get the chance."
