There have been several positive signs over the first two years of the coach Vic Schaefer era that lead towards the thinking that the Mississippi State women's basketball program is on the right track.
The Bulldogs got a signature win last season when they knocked off No. 11 Georgia.
After recording a road victory against then-ranked No. 25 Arkansas in January, MSU got its biggest triumph of 2013-14 on Sunday when it defeated No. 16 Vanderbilt 64-62.
The latest accomplishment on the court helped improved the Bulldogs to 17-9 overall and can start the discussion of being included in the postseason somewhere.
Although it's going to take a little more to be in the NCAA Tournament conversation, MSU can land a spot in the Women's National Invitational Tournament and that would be a huge step for the program.
"These kids have a bigger picture and they have a goal they want to achieve as well," Schaefer said on Sunday. "They want to play in March after the conference tournament. They've got a little taste of what it is to be successful and they want to keep building on that. That's what you want."
