Letter to the Editor

February 18, 2014

By David May, Starkville

Editor:

This letter is in reference to the editorial cartoon “If Mother Nature were a Republican” published February 16.

Arguably the greatest problem facing our nation is the polarization of the population into entrenched ideologies that refuse to discuss issues and reach common ground for solutions. The SDN has encouraged those ideologies, both right and left, by publishing the cartoon that portrays Republicans as selfish and uncaring. It appears to suggest “I got mine and I hope you don’t get yours.” It plays into a political theater that denigrates Republicans.
