Volunteers see season end with 1-0 loss in OT

February 15, 2014

One game was all Starkville Academy needed to extend its season into the playoffs.
On Friday afternoon, the Volunteers faced off with Pillow Academy in search of the victory which would push them ahead of Heritage Academy in the standings.
The game did not swing in Starkville Academy’s favor as it saw its season end with a 1-0 loss to the Mustangs in overtime.
“During the regular game, I was very proud because they had very few chances on our goal,” Starkville Academy coach Cole Andrews said. “They had a couple shots but Connor Reinike made really great stops.
"We got into overtime we were playing as hard as we could. There was tons of standing water on the field. You kicked the ball and it just stopped. They got a free kick that just got over us, but they never hung their heads. They continued to fight the whole game. Unfortunately, we just fell short, but they certainly gave it their all.”
The Vols ended the season with a 6-8-2 record.
