Ice threat continues - Schools still closed today

A winter storm passed through Starkville late Monday and early Tuesday, leaving schools and many government offices and business closed. More winter weather is expected to last through this afternoon. (Photo by Alex Holloway, SDN)

Some local officials breathed a sigh of relief as a first round of winter weather passed through the area Monday night and early Tuesday morning with muted impact.

Oktibbeha County Road Manager Victor Collins said Tuesday afternoon that the day had progressed much more smoothly than initially expected.
