Self gives it all for the Jackets

Basketball season is winding down for Starkville High School, but one player is not ready for the ride to end.
“I wish I could have another year,” senior Dontavius Self said. “That is why I give it my all every day at practice and while we are playing. We can’t get this time back so we have to play like this is our last time because it is. I want to leave high school with something. I want to be known as the guy that gave it his all and worked hard.”
Self’s ability to work has never shown brighter than this past season and off season when the then junior had to battle his way back from a broken kneecap.
Watching from the bench was hard on Self, so when given the go-ahead, he immediately hit the gym to get ready for his impending return.
“It was hard watching my team go down the way they did last year,” Self said. “I felt like this year I had to work harder after coming back from injury. It turned out to be a great senior year for me and my teammates.”
