The University of Kentucky has been the gold standard for Southeastern Conference basketball programs for as long as basketball has been played in the south.
Mississippi State nearly knocked off the historic program inside Humphrey Coliseum on Saturday.
The Bulldogs threw everything but the kitchen sink at No. 18 Kentucky, but ended up dropping a 69-59 decision Saturday afternoon.
"I was really pleased with the way our guys competed (Saturday), and I was really disappointed in the way we competed at Texas A&M," MSU head coach Rick Ray said. "When you play hard like that and you have that competitive spirit, you can compete against anybody."
MSU lost to Texas A&M 72-52 on the road Wednesday night.
