Improving Volunteers get home win

February 7, 2014

Starkville Academy soccer coach Cole Andrews believes he has an improving boys team and that's a comforting feeling going into the stretch run of the season.
The Volunteers took one step closer to a possible postseason spot with an 8-1 victory Thursday over Hillcrest Christian School at the Starkville Sportsplex.
Andrews stressed the importance of the match with his squad because of the competitive situation Starkville Academy experienced in its last meeting with Hillcrest.
"We struggled against them the last time," Andrews said. "We beat them 2-1 with a minute left in the game. We had a quick chat before (Thursday's) game. We need to take them one game at a time and win the important ones."
With the win, the Vols improved to 5-5-1 overall and 5-5 in Class AAA, Division II.
