SMITH COLUMN: Players make it to the pros under Mullen

February 2, 2014

Smith

The Dan Mullen pipeline to the pros grows with each passing year.
From K.J. Wright, who will start at linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks in today's Super Bowl, to Johnthan Banks, who enjoyed a good rookie season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mullen has found a way to get Mississippi State players through to the next level.
That trend is expected to continue this year as offensive lineman Gabe Jackson is the latest Bulldog set to make a splash in the National Football League. Most people believe Jackson will be a first-round draft pick.
Once players make it to the NFL, there's always an opportunity for them to catch on with a squad that can make it all of the way to the Super Bowl.
Mullen saw two of his players participate in last year's Super Bowl as MSU's all-time leading rusher Anthony Dixon and the San Francisco 49ers played Pernell McPhee and the Baltimore Ravens.
Now it's Wright's turn to take the big stage.
