Choctaw County coach pleased with Challenge

January 26, 2014

ACKERMAN – Choctaw County High School played host to the Mid-Mississippi Challenge featuring some of the best girls basketball teams from across the state.
“This is the seventh year for the tournament,” Choctaw County coach Gary Beals said. “This is probably the best lineup on paper. I don’t know about crowd wise or how games will turn out, but so far it has been real good.”
First up on the agenda was a game between the Lady Chargers and the visiting Lady Panthers of French Camp. After a toughly fought contest, it was French Camp walking away with a 51-35 victory.
“We are young,” Beals said. “We were playing without two starters. We jumped out early then got in foul trouble and had to pull the press off. They just beat us inside. We have to get where we can shoot the ball, especially free throws.”
