State's Schaefer calls game at A&M a 'business trip'

January 19, 2014

Vic Schaefer

The potential distractions are evident for the Mississippi State women's basketball team today.
When the Bulldogs play the Texas A&M Aggies at 2 p.m. in College Station, Tex., the connections surrounding the game are numerous.
MSU has two players from Texas in freshmen Dominique Dillingham (Spring) and Ketara Chapel (Temple), while head coach Vic Schaefer is also a native of that state (Houston).
Schaefer has gone back to a place that's near and dear to his heart in Texas A&M, his alma mater and where he was an associate head coach from 2003-12.
The Aggies supported Schaefer and his family during a difficult time in their lives and he remains very appreciative of the community.
Even with all of those factors to consider, Schaefer is focused on this being a "business trip."
"For me, I'm going with these girls and I'm going to win a basketball game," Schaefer said. "I told them in the locker room (after the Tennessee loss) that I've got a lot of confidence in them. They are growing up right in front of my eyes. They are committed to doing and buying in to what we're selling them as a staff.
"These kids play hard. I see them every day in practice and I know what they do in practice. Nobody works harder than them."
