Starkville Academy refused to let Hillcrest Christian run away with the ballgame.
In the end, it wasn’t enough.
The Volunteers kept it close for all four quarters, but in the end, the No. 3 Cougars came away with a 52-46 victory Tuesday night inside the Starkville Academy Gymnasium.
“That may have been our best game all year and Hillcrest is ranked top 5 in the state,” SA head coach Mark Alexander said. “(Hillcrest is) two-time defending AA State champs, all the talent in the world and we hung with them. They just made a couple of more plays than us down the stretch.
