Like mother, like daughter is the perfect phrase to describe Starkville High’s Skyler Runnels journey into the sport of bowling.
“I started several years ago mainly because my mom did it and I would come up here with her,” Runnels said. “From there, I met some of the East Webster coaches and they started teaching me how to bowl.”
Having the privilege of personal coaching certainly aided Runnels in her game. When she transferred to Starkville from Starkville Christian School, the level of technique the junior possessed was advanced well beyond her years.
“Skyler has a lot of experience,” SHS bowling coach Jim Philamlee said. “She is more mature and also I really emphasize how comfortable she is with the team.”
