FULTON – Itawamba Community College men's basketball coach Grant Pate had his eye on Tory Rice long before joining the Indians.
When Pate was the head boys coach at Tupelo High School, Rice was someone he particularly didn't want to see.
That's because Rice played for the Starkville Yellowjackets.
"We got to compete against some of those guys and some of them we weren't real excited about playing against them," Pate said. "Tory and those Yellowjackets were one of those teams. We weren't excited about going into that Jacket nest. He was a young man who really stuck out to us all through high school from 9th grade, 10th grade and 11th grade."
For the last two seasons, Rice has shown his skill at ICC, especially in rebounding. Rice leads the Indians this season with 7.1 boards per game.
