Success on the field or in the classroom doesn't just happen with a snap of the finger.
In the five seasons that John Cohen has been the head coach of the Mississippi State baseball team, the program has developed in both of those areas.
Cohen used his annual power point presentation to share the success the Bulldogs enjoyed last season with the Starkville Rotary Club on Monday.
The most notable accomplishment for MSU was the second place finish in the nation at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., but Cohen also talked about the high marks academically, the number of first round draft picks coming from the team, and high attendance figures at Dudy Noble Field.
One of the mottos the Bulldogs have adopted is "never quit - keep working - pursue passion."
Cohen said that's what it takes to achieve goals like making the College World Series and performing well there.
"(It's) the selfless component of the kids," Cohen said. "It's not a secret in any sport, but in our sport, there's nine guys who can play. The others that can't play can support.
"I'd like to think it comes from us (the coaches), but it comes from a lot of things. It comes from the chemistry of the group, also from parents and we're very fortunate."
