SAY competition starts on Jan. 13

January 5, 2014

Basketball season has been in full swing for college and high school teams for the last couple of months.
The Starkville area youth are about to get in on the fun.
Competition begins at the Travis Outlaw Center as part of the Starkville Parks and Recreation's Starkville Area Youth program.
“This year we have 365 kids ranging in age from 7 to 15 playing,” SAY basketball coordinator Ron Mitchell said. “We have already got them divided into 51 teams and they have been practicing since before Christmas.”
Preparation time will soon be ending for the participating teams as competition is slated to begin January 13.
According to Mitchell, games will be played every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights as well as games on Saturday morning. The only days when competition will not take place are the Martin Luther King, Jr. and Valentine’s Day holidays.
