East Webster, Choctaw County split action

January 4, 2014

MATHISTON – The East Webster girls basketball team started off the new year with an impressive 48-16 win over Choctaw County.
“You have to decide how you are going to play during the break,” East Webster coach Todd Hutchinson said. “Are you going to a big tournament and play three or four days there or are you going to play one and spend time practicing? I like what we did in playing Columbus, then taking a few days to spend with family, then coming back and playing another upper-class school. It was nice to get the win against them, especially heading into the Montgomery County Tournament where we will be playing our way back into shape, since there is very little practice time between now and then.”

MATHISTON – The results were reversed in the boys game as it was the Chargers leaving the gym victorious.
“We didn’t handle the pressure at all and didn’t play with the energy we needed to play with,” Wolverines coach Corey Stidham said. “We sort of went through the motions and just didn’t have it. We had a few opportunities that we didn’t take advantage of and it results in a five-point swing. Those kinds of things kill you, but we aren’t making excuses. We are going to have to knit together as a team and bond together because we have to have everyone and be gritty if we are going to play with teams.”
