Fire severely damaged a transformer supplying power to Flexsteel’s Starkville woodworking facility Thursday, with repairs expected to continue into the weekend.

Starkville Fire Department Chief Rodger Mann said SFD received a call about the fire at 9:55 a.m., and by 10:31 a.m. it was extinguished. He said putting the fire out was a joint effort between SFD and the Starkville Electric Department. For instance, Tommy Sullivan, SED engineering and operations manager, said SED needed to cut the power to the transformer before the fire could be extinguished.
