SMITH COLUMN: Ware must keep playing well for MSU

January 3, 2014

Smith

Gavin Ware came out ready to play on Thursday night and he dominated.
The former Starkville High School player had gotten a double-double midway through the first half and led the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 77-63 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore at Humphrey Coliseum. He finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
Even though the visiting Hawks had some size, there wasn't anyone on the roster that could match up with Ware.
The former Yellowjacket had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the first half as MSU took a 29-20 lead. He hit 6-of-8 shots from the field.
At one point during the first half, Ware tried to slam a miss from a teammate back into the goal. Even though he missed, the attempt was emphatic and rattled the backboard.
The effort from Ware was his fourth double-double of the season for the Bulldogs and sixth of his career.
Ware began the season with an impressive double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds against Prairie View. His other double-doubles were 23 points and 11 boards against Mississippi Valley State and 10 points and 15 rebounds against South Florida.
