RINGING IN YEAR: MSU collects nice victory over Rice

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ­– Bulldogs aren’t known for eating rice, but for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, that’s what they had Tuesday afternoon.
MSU rolled to an easy 44-7 victory over the Owls of Rice in the 55th AutoZone Liberty Bowl at Liberty Bowl Stadium on New Year’s Eve.
“I’m really proud of our guys, (and) how they played (Tuesday),” MSU head coach Dan Mullen said. “Coming into a bowl game after a long layoff, we have to come out on fire, we have to play at a very, very high level and we have to execute at a very high level.”
MSU finished the season with a 7-5 record, which is its fourth-straight winning season. The Owls, who won Conference USA, finished with a 10-4 record.
